Members-only features and content
Many features of the ScienceWriters web site are restricted to NASW members.
Members are asked not to share members-only content with non-members.
- Member directory: A searchable index of contact information for science writers, including areas of specialty and expertise.
- ScienceWriters Compensation Survey: A detailed report of compensation based on results from 600+ member surveys collected in late 2013 and published in 2014. New results coming in 2022!
- Funding sources: A searchable list of grants, fellowships, and other types of funding for which science writers may qualify.
- The Fine Print: A searchable archive of contracts for journalism work.
- Access to scientific journals including Elsevier's ScienceDirect, a database of full-text articles from over 2,500 scientific and medical journals; American Physical Society journals; Annual Reviews; Nature; the New England Journal of Medicine; and the Journal of the American Medical Association. (Limited to professional and student members)
- Setting up a member web page: How to set up an individual web page on the ScienceWriters site at no charge to professional (not student) members.
- Jobs bank: A 90-day archive of job ads for full-time, part-time, freelance, contract, and other work, including internships.
- Discounts: A listing of discounts available to NASW members on workshops, software, and more. We are adding to this section, so please email director@nasw.org if you have discounts to offer. (Limited to professional and student members)
- Member email aliases: Forward your mail to a personal email account from an nasw.org address of your choosing. Just use the "edit your profile" link when logged in, then scroll down on the "Addresses/email" tab. (Limited to professional and student members)
- Information access database: Share your experiences trying to get access to scientists or information from uncooperative institutions, including government agencies, corporations, nonprofits and universities.
