FREE LANCE WRITING
Since 1982 I have been a regular contributor to New Scientist, a British weekly science magazine aimed at an educated lay audience. I have written technology and science news articles, feature stories, many book reviews, and contributed satirical shorts to its Feedback page. I have written chemistry news and feature stories for The Alchemist, a news source for chemists in ChemWeb, and summarize medical news for HMS Beagle, an information source for biologists. (Both of these web sites were Elsevier publications.) I have written articles on technology, medicine, computers, the environment, entomology, agriculture, etc. and reviewed books for many publications, including Science, The New York Times, IEEE Spectrum, Popular Science, Discover, Science 86, Science Digest, Science News, The Scientist and Computer News for Physicians. I have translated articles for Scientific American. I am a photo researcher for a Scandinavian science monthly Illustreret Videnskab (Science Illustrated)and have also written for this magazine. Since 1980, I have been a Contributing Editor to World Press Review, a monthly magazine reprinting news from the foreign press. I clip newspapers and magazines from Europe and Latin America, evaluate articles for the editors, and translate 10-20 articles each month from 9 European languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish) into English for publication. My avocation has long been military history, and I contribute to H-War, part of the Humanities Net ( http://h-net2.msu.edu/~war/) online lists, and review books for it as well.
