The American Society for Microbiology has created an ASM Public Communications Award to recognize "outstanding achievement by professional journalists in increasing public awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the science of microbiology." The award consists of a $2,500 cash award, a plaque, and travel expenses to the ASM annual meeting. Stories concerning the microbiological sciences appearing in print and broadcast media available to the general public are eligible; submissions may be a single work or a series.
Entries must be received by February 28 for work published or aired during the preceding calendar year. For additional information, contact Barbara Hyde, ASM Public Communications, via fax at 202-942-9367 or e-mail at communications@asmusa.org.
