NASW Revises Handbook on Communicating News About Science to Media

NASW has just published a new edition of Communicating Science News, its guide for scientists, physicians and public information officers to working with science journalists.

The new edition features the association's recommendations and precautions about reaching science writers via e-mail and posting news releases on the World Wide Web.

Written by Dennis Meredith of Duke, Communicating Science News explains:

• Who science writers are and what are their media
• What role public information officers play in communicating science
• How to prepare and distribute news releases to media and on the World Wide Web
• When to phone, fax or e-mail a science writer
• How to operate a newsroom at a scientific meeting
• How to work with reluctant scientists, handle bad news and avoid other problems in disseminating science news
