THREE NASW MEMBERS NAMED KNIGHT SCIENCE JOURNALISM FELLOWS

Three NASW members are among 10 science journalists from five countries named winners of the 2003-2004 Knight Science Journalism Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each will receive a $45,000 fellowship to study science at MIT for a full academic year starting in September.
They are Kevin Begos, Washington correspondent for the Winston-Salem Journal and other Media General newspapers; Jessica Gorman, staff writer at Science News magazine; and Steve Mirsky, articles editor and columnist at Scientific American magazine.

The 20-year-old fellowship is the only year-long academic program designed for journalists who specialize in science, medicine, technology or the environment. Journalists spend the year taking courses at both MIT and Harvard University, participating in twice-weekly seminars with leading researchers and conducting independent research on journalistic projects. The program’s principal benefactor is the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
