NASW BOARD SEEKS CANDIDATES

The Democratic primary contest is over, but the NASW election cycle is just beginning. The NASW nominations committee is seeking candidates who wish to run for the NASW board. We welcome all interested parties. The committee will settle on a slate of candidates (including the current members, who must run for re-election) later this spring, and the elections will be held in the fall.

NASW board members are expected to make a significant contribution of time and effort to the organization. Each member must participate in one or two committees, usually as chairman of one of them. Members must attend the annual board meeting, held in conjunction with the NASW February workshops, and may sometimes be called upon to attend special meetings. Board members must also have an eye toward possibly serving as an officer in the future. The candidates for the officers’ slots are drawn from the board.

Candidates may also be nominated for officer or board positions by petition signed by 20 members.
The nominations committee consists of past president Paul Raeburn (chair), Tom Siegfried of the Dallas Morning News, Charlie Petit of U.S. News & World Report, NASW President Deborah Blum, and President-Elect Laura van Dam.

Anyone wishing to be nominated should contact Paul Raeburn (paulraeburn@nasw.org) or submit a petition by May 1. We will announce the nominations on May 7, and candidates will be required to submit their statements for publication in ScienceWriters by June 1.
