IN MEMORIAM

Ronald D. Ross

Ronald Dudley Ross, 81, a former editor of Public Power, a publication of the American Public Power Association (APPA), died April 1 in Arlington, VA. He had been an NASW member since 1947.

Ross was born in Fargo, N.D. and grew up in Ames, Iowa, where his father was a college professor. He was a 1943 graduate of Iowa State University and served in the Navy during World War II. He participated in the invasion of Normandy as an officer aboard a vessel that ferried soldiers and supplies from ships to the beaches.

He settled in the Washington, D.C. area after the war and in 1946 joined Science Service as a science journalist. Ross later joined the staff of APPA when it consisted of only four people. Over the years, he built the association’s magazine and weekly newsletter into important and credible sources of information about electricity policy developments.

According to his wife, Ross was very proud of his 56-year membership in NASW.
