DIVERSITY OUTREACH BY NASW/CASWIn an effort to inform journalists of color about opportunities in science writing, NASW and CASW will share a booth at UNITY 2004 Convention, Aug. 4-8, in Washington, DC. Representing NASW at the quadrennial meeting are Adlai Amor, Victor Cornejo, Angela Bradley, Aaron Levin, Rajendrani Mukhopadhyay, Dinesh Ramde, Mark Sampson, Nancy Shute, Shannah Tharp-Taylor, Linda Wang, and Corinna Wu; representing CASW are Warren Leary and Carol Rogers. UNITY, which represents 7,000 media professionals of color, is a national alliance comprised of the Asian American Journalists Association, National Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and Native American Journalists Association. In July, NASW members Jim Cornell, Kim McDonald, Jon Christensen, and Lynne Friedmann were speakers at the first Jack Ealy Workshop on Science Journalism. The workshop drew journalists from 13 Latin American countries and was held at the Institute of the Americas, on the campus of UC San Diego. # |
