NOTICES FROM DIANEby Diane McGurgan Membership directory The NASW membership directory will be mailed in early July. If your name is not listed that means your dues arrived too late for inclusion in this year’s directory. Many thanks to Larry Krumenaker who, once again, did a marvelous job putting it all together. CASW New Horizons The 42nd annual CASW New Horizons in Science Briefing for science writers will be held Nov. 7-10 and hosted by the University of Arkansas. For more information, see the CASW Web site (www.casw.org), or watch the mail for program and registration information. NOTE: On Sunday, the opening day of New Horizons, there’ll be a bio-odyssey to the Ozarks. So be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. CASW offers Traveling Fellowships, of up to $1,000 each, to cover the costs of attending New Horizons. The fellowships are intended primarily for journalists from publications and broadcast outlets that do not routinely cover major science meetings or employ a full-time science writer. Application deadline is Sept. 15. NASW fall workshop For the second time, NASW is offering a Fall Professional Development workshop. It will take place on Sat., Nov. 6, prior to the start of the CASW New Horizons meeting. Board election A slate of candidates for the 2002-03 NASW board, which will be elected later this year, has been selected by the nominating committee (see candidate bios on pages 9-13). But there’s still time for you to declare yourself a candidate for the board by submitting a petition with the signatures of 20 NASW members. Send petitions to the NASW, P.O. Box 890, Hedgesville, WV 25427-0890 by October 1. Ballots will be mailed later that month. # |
