MEET THE BOOK AUTHORS AND EDITORS
The panel of speakers will be: - Robin Marantz Henig
(author, The Monk in the Garden: The Lost and Found Genius of Gregor Mendel)- Dennis Overbye
(author, Einstein in Love: A Scientific Romance)- Carl Zimmer
(author, Parasite Rex: Inside the Bizarre World of Nature's Most Dangerous Creatures)- Laura van Dam
(editor, Hougton Mifflin Co.)- Rick Kot
(editor, Penguin Putnam)- Stephen Morrow
(editor, Freepress, Simon & Schuster)The invited authors will talk about how they conceived and developed the project, then actually brought it to completion. They will also discuss how they pitched the proposal, including the role of an agent.
The editors will share with us what they look for in books about science and scientists. They will give the editor's perspective on how a writer can get a book written, published, and promoted. They will also discuss what they look for in a book proposal.
- WHEN: Thursday, November 9. Food, drink and schmoozing from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m., program starts at 6:45 p.m.
- WHERE: The Gene Media Forum, Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications, Lubin House, 11 East 61st Street, New York.
