SWINY EVENT

Women's Health in the 21st Century:
Morphing into Sex-based Biology and Gender-Specific Medicine

Tuesday, May 2, 2000

As we embark on the post-genomic era of medicine, where treatment will be tailored to fit the genotype of the individual, let us first consider two populations with obvious genetic distinctions--males and females. The rapidly growing field of gender-specific medicine seeks to understand why certain diseases may be more prevalent or more severe in one sex than the other, and how gender differences may play into improved disease prevention and treatment. SWINY is pleased to host an event in which practitioners of gender-specific medicine will discuss recent finding and future challenges. Viva la difference!

Light buffet dinner begins at 6:00 pm; presentation starts at 7:00 pm.

Marianne Legato, M.D., F.A.C.P., Founder and Director of Partnership for Women's Health at Columbia University, will begin with a presentation.

At 7:30 p.m., other partnership scholars will speak briefly about their areas of expertise and field questions:
