I write for magazines like Wired, Science, and Mother Jones, mostly about how science and technology are changing the way we live. I've also written for the Los Angeles Times and produced for CNN. Before I became a journalist, I studied biology, earning a bachelor's from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1997. I spent some time doing research on a Costa Rican farm, and, for a while, I thought I wanted to be a soil scientist. But it turns out I'm better with words than pipettes.
