NASW and CASW launch WCSJ travel fund campaign

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW), in cooperation with NASW, this week launched a new fundraising campaign to provide travel fellowships for international science writers attending the 10th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2017) scheduled for October 26-30 in San Francisco.

The fellowship fund has been named the David Perlman WCSJ2017 Travel Fellowship Fund in honor of long-time San Francisco Chronicle science editor David Perlman.

Travel fellowships are a critical need leading up to the World Conference as many science writers from developing countries would be unable to travel to the U.S. without financial support, and global participation is what makes this conference unique. We’re bringing the world to San Francisco to offer members a chance to develop the kinds of meaningful connections and perspective shifts that have previously been available only by traveling to other countries, but this extraordinary effort needs your help.

CASW and NASW board members, who each jumpstarted the fund with individual contributions, invite you to make contributions (of any size!) to the fellowship fund online or by including a donation during the annual membership renewal process, which begins in early December. Donations are tax deductible and will be administered by CASW. Thanks to an anonymous donor, each donation made before January 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $20,000.

The full announcement can be found on the WCSJ2017 website or here.
