The currently being formed NASW Editors Committee will host its first event this September. For any NASW members interested in pivoting to editing gigs and careers, come by for this virtual panel. Then reach out to organizers Katie Burke and Jane Marie Andrew at editing@nasw.org if you have the time and energy to help establish this new committee.
Traditional science writing career pathways have been disrupted by a changing media ecosystem. If you’re feeling lost when it comes to transitioning to editing or finding freelance editing gigs on the ‘hidden job market’ or just want a leg up as an aspiring editor, then please join us for an NASW Virtual Business Chat on “How To Break Into Editing”. Our three panelists will share their own editing career journeys and then answer your burning questions.
Invited Speakers:
- Ashley Yeager is an associate news editor at Science News and author of Bright Galaxies, Dark Matter and Beyond, on the life of astronomer Vera Rubin. Yeager is also a former co-chair of the NASW Education Committee.
- Betsy Mason is a freelance science journalist and editor who previously worked as science editor for WIRED magazine's website and as science and national laboratories reporter for the Contra Costa Times. Mason is a current co-chair of the NASW Journalism Committee.
